Hooves Marching For Mercy (HMFM) Services Overview

General Business Plan Overview:

Phase I:

Part A:

We currently provide permanent sanctuary for 42 animals, 18 pigs, 11 cats, 2 dog, 1 horse, 1 goat, 8 chickens, 1 rat. Since August 2013 we have rescued over 80 animals and found them homes. We currently provide education on pigs, especially dispelling the teacup pig myth. We travel to events to provide education as well as hands on experience with pigs. We hold days where we invite the public to come in and visit the sanctuary. We will continue to rescue pigs and occasionally other farm animals that have suffered from emotional and physical trauma from neglect, abandonment, and abuse.

With people buying the cute “teacup” pigs and farm animals for pets, not truly understanding what it will require to care for them, there is a growing need for sanctuaries to take in these animals who have been raised as pets. We will not adopt out animals, but provide lifetime permanent sanctuary for all animals.

Part B:

Once moved onto a larger piece of property we will start taking more animals into our sanctuary. We will be teaching military/veterans/homeless veterans, who choose to participate in our outreach programs, how to work with the special animals in the sanctuary. military/veterans/homeless veterans, and community volunteers will be actively working with the animals in the sanctuary, providing for their physical, mental, and social needs.

Animals will also be allowed to be paired up with veterans and live with long term residents. The goal is to promote healing and growth in the animals through the love of the veterans and, healing and growth in the veterans through the love of the animals.

We will also have a small clinic area in the barn for treating our sanctuary animals. The space will be similar to that of the small clinic area for treating veterans. Volunteers treating our animals will have a clean, well-stocked, and workable area to provide medical care. To accomplish this goal we will need volunteers such as veterinarians, vet assistants and techs, and volunteers who wish to assist the veterans working with the animals.

Phase II:

Part A:

Phase II is p
roviding sanctuary and a peaceful environment for our currently serving military/veterans/in-need/homeless veterans, to participate in our daily/weekly programs, volunteer program, and eventually our housing program for veterans in need or homeless. When soldiers come home, they often are left with traumatic physical and emotional wounds that leave them in pain both physically and mentally. They frequently suffer from PTSD, mental illness, and drug/alcohol abuse. Every night in the U.S. 49,000+ veterans sleep on the streets, this is unacceptable! We will provide a peaceful setting, where they can volunteer, participate in our outreach programs, and help others, including the animals. Helping with the animals is a key program, as it has been proven to be very therapeutic.

We believe growth and healing in this kind of environment takes place by the veterans caring for animals that have their own physical and emotional wounds that can only be healed through the love of a person. We will provide outreach programs that will provide for the veterans’ physical and emotional health needs, and spiritual needs but not affiliated with any one religion, providing services for all spiritual needs. We will accomplish this through support groups, classes, training programs, and care by qualified professionals and volunteers.

Part B:

Purchasing property that will allow us to take care of animals currently at our sanctuary, as well as grow and take in more. Also, during this part of our growth we will start building housing for the in need and homeless veterans that participate in our program, and who want to transition from homelessness, to being a working part of the sanctuary. We will be creating a peaceful environment and community where healing can take place. During the construction phase, all of our currently offered outreach programs will be up and running, and preparing for veterans to come live at the sanctuary. We will provide both transitional and long-term housing.

Part C:

We will begin taking in the veterans for long term and permanent housing in micro houses. We will also have a bunkhouse for those wishing to come and volunteer their time for an extended period, such as retired veterans and other volunteers. Individual housing will be for those veterans wishing for more isolation, and for long term participants. The programs from previous parts will be ongoing, and we plan to have more programs by this point that will assist in their healing and growth process, all part of their personalized care program. The largest parts of their care program will be working daily with the animals, and helping with the daily running of the sanctuary. In exchange, they will be provided housing, food, and other resources that they may need to promote their physical, mental, and spiritual health.

We will secure key people for screening and working with the veterans regularly including, social workers, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, and chaplains that can meet the needs of all faiths. We will have volunteer physicians of all types, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, and an array of other medical help, as needed. This will be on a volunteer basis, or a very minimum pay basis.

A basic clinic, built separate from other buildings, will be provided in order to facilitate treatment.

Phase III:

We will work locally in our own community of the greater Atlanta, GA area, to begin with. Phase 3 will encompass possible growth working throughout the Southeast Region of the United States.
